Tiger Team - ferocious and tireless - (Step 1 in BMX)

This is Step 1 in the BMX problem management methodology. This step involves constructing a Tiger Team. A Tiger team is an expert problem solving team. Tigers team members are chosen for ferocious talent, tireless focus, and trusted to take action to find the problem, and if required fix it.

Some of the best known Tiger Teams were those constructed for the Cuban missile crisis and for Apollo 13. The use of Tiger Teams in Information Technology (IT) has become obsolete. This is problematic as the only alternative is individual brilliance (a.k.a. the hero). Unluckily, heroes never solve problems, they only create them.

On my desk, I have a model of the SR-71. The SR-71 Blackbird remains the fastest and highest flying aircraft. It started life in 1959! In nearly 50 years nothing has come close to touching it. The lesson is, do not discard any concept, because it is old.

Checkpoint: Do we have all the right skills to deal with the problem? Are the right people on the bus? The Tiger Team does not have hierarchy (all are equal)!
